By night I sing and write for The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band, a seven man band who play over 150 shows a year, travelling up and down the country in the most inconvenient method possible - public transport.
This is my diary for the new Rabbit Foot Spasm Band LP which will be released on August 19th 2013 on the Serious Types label.
The record celebrates life in the great outdoors, taking in maypoles, tin tub baths, apples, jack the ripper dancing shoes - and dreams of being Charles II. The record is again all original, with its foot firmly on English soil, but rooted in old blues, gospel, calypso, country and New Orleans jazz- all the best of the music we love.
I'm interested in British Jazz music and musicians, and their general loucheness; small provincial museums and junk shops; coastal towns; the skiffle craze; incidents caused by Old Rosie and Merrydown Cider; Riverboat Shuffles; English Parish Churches; Taxidermy; Music Hall, Morris Dancing, Hobby Horses, camping... and red wine.

He’s trying to get out because he’s just heard there’s a Rabbit Foot Spasm Band summer party - and he hasn’t got one of them fancy phones so he can’t book his tickets online. But you can! Here’s the link - buy from us and there’s no booking fee!
Always rammed, always fun - the band are playing the Cellar in our hometown of Oxford this Friday. Our new sax player will be making his debut with the band and we’ll have, gasp, four brass on stage. Fans eager to hear our new material should check this show out. I’ve taken anything we released before 2011 and replaced it with New Orleans funeral music - looking forward to an awesome show…
We finished recording our forthcoming long playing record of Saturday 30th March. Watch this space for a release date - depending on when we’re away gigging it could be as early as June, or as late as September. My money is on July….
